Trailhead International Celebrates 10 Years of Helping Build Churches Around the World

Trailhead International is celebrating its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of partnering with missionaries and national church leaders to provide permanent ministry facilities in communities around the world.

Founded by Mark Carter, Trailhead International exists to help strengthen local churches by providing resources for church construction projects and ministry centers in developing countries. As the organization reflects on its first ten years, Carter says the focus has never been simply on buildings, but on creating lasting opportunities for churches to reach people with the gospel.

“We are thinking long-term,” Carter said. “The vision is to build a permanent, laser-focused organization that helps build gospel-preaching churches until the return of Christ. We want to create something that goes well beyond our lifetimes and continues making an eternal impact.”

Celebrating the Mission

From its beginning, Trailhead International has operated with a clear mission: helping build a church building within reach of every person on earth.

The organization works by connecting Christian individuals, churches, and businesses with strategic ministry opportunities around the world. In addition, Trailhead partners with missionaries and national leaders who share a Great Commission vision for expanding gospel influence in their countries and communities.

A key part of that strategy is funding a protected endowment that can support church construction projects not only today, but for future generations of ministry.

Celebrating God’s Blessing

What began as a vision ten years ago has grown into a global ministry footprint.

Today, Trailhead International operates in 54 countries and is involved in more than 400 ministry projects. During its first decade, the organization has completed construction on approximately 250 church facilities and currently has more than 150 additional projects under construction, funded, or ready to begin.

The ministry also supports more than 50 outreach centers that provide services such as youth sports programs, medical care, and emergency food relief. Altogether, these efforts are serving an estimated 120,000 people worldwide.

According to Carter, the impact extends far beyond construction projects. “Every church building represents people,” he said. “It represents a congregation that has a permanent place to worship, disciple believers, serve its community, and share the gospel. When a church has a permanent home, it creates opportunities for ministry that can continue for generations.”

Looking ahead, Trailhead hopes to expand into 80 countries, complete 1,800 church construction projects, and serve more than two million people over the next decade.

Celebrating the Value

One of Trailhead International’s primary roles is helping ensure that church construction projects move from vision to reality.

The organization assists throughout the process, from evaluating projects and ministry opportunities to helping coordinate planning, construction, funding, and project oversight. Trailhead also provides accountability and reporting so supporters can see the results of completed projects and the impact they have on local communities.

This approach has enabled the organization to work with a growing network of ministry partners while maintaining a focus on local churches and their long-term effectiveness.

Celebrating the Heroes

While Trailhead International has reached several significant milestones during its first ten years, Carter is quick to redirect attention to those serving on the front lines of ministry.

“The real heroes are the missionaries and national leaders who are faithfully serving in these communities every day,” Carter said. “They’re preaching the gospel, planting churches, discipling believers, and investing their lives in people. We simply come alongside them and help provide a permanent base for the ministry God has already given them.”

Today, Trailhead partners with more than 60 international organizations and works alongside leaders serving in strategic locations around the world.

Carter emphasizes that Trailhead does not plant churches. Instead, the organization helps churches that have already been established move into permanent facilities that can serve as centers for worship, discipleship, and community outreach.

As the apostle Paul wrote, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.” Trailhead’s role is to support those already laboring in the harvest field and help strengthen the ministries they have built.

Celebrating New Partnerships

As Trailhead International begins its second decade of ministry, the organization continues to look for opportunities to expand its reach and strengthen local churches around the world.

“We’re grateful for what God has allowed us to see during these first ten years,” Carter said. “But we believe there is still much more to do. There are communities that need churches, churches that need resources, and people who need to hear the gospel. We’re excited to see what God will do in the years ahead.”
