Priority of Prayer for the Church Planter

Many of us would admit that much too often we begin our strategies, plans and ideas without seeking the will of God.

How often have we had a thought or an idea for our church plant and immediately go to work to put our own plan into action and then later ask God to join us. In reality, we should first go to the Lord in prayer asking  for His direction and His ideas. Then, after gaining His direction, we can join Him rather than asking Him to join our own ideas. We can get so busy in own ideas that we forget about the Lord’s.

If ever there was an ingredient that was essential in the life of the church planter it would be the element of prayer.  John 5:15 “I am the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same shall be forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing.” The apostle Paul was speaking to the church of Thessalonica in I Thessalonians 5:17 when he said …”Pray without ceasing.” The church planter should be continually praying for every aspect of his life, his family, his message, guest, his health, finances, services, souls and list goes on.

A healthy prayer life begins in the morning before your day starts, continues during the day as you carry out objectives, and closes in the evening with family. That is praying without ceasing. There is nothing more important to the church planter’s life than his place of prayer where he finds the presence of God.

Oswald Chambers said, “Prayer is not preparation for the battle, prayer is the battle.
