January 16, 2018 marked the launching of a new church in Debre Zeit, a small town just outside of Addis Ababa. Dwayne Wright states that the church began from an “unofficial ministry” of his two sons, Caleb and Joshua, playing soccer outside of the school started a few years earlier. The Friday night soccer outreach, which included devotions between games, quickly grew to 60 participants. After much prayer, a home directly across from the school opened up and was purchased for the new church. There were 40 in attendance for the new church’s first service, most from the soccer outreach. After just a few weeks, there is already a need for more chairs and more room. Wright states, “We are praying and looking for more property nearby to purchase and build a new church building.”
