Thank you for reminding me how good God is. Thank you for your actions that show how much you love BBC, and thank you for encouraging me.
Friendship Baptist Church in Owasso, OK, recently hosted an incredible BBFI National Meeting. I give a college update at each of these meetings. As I awaited my turn to speak, I was approached by a generous, loving man who said these unexpected words, “My wife and I would like to do a $50,000 matching gift to BBC.”
My heart started to race and I began to pray right at that moment. I wasn’t sure what to do or how to say it. I quickly gave my report and very simply shared his offer. Doubt taunted me that the room would remain silent and the effort would fall short, but a pastor immediately spoke up and said, “We’ll do $1,000!” This was matched by another, and another and another. Within five minutes, a miracle had taken place. We raised $50,000, which became $100,000, and will allow us to finish the HVAC project in the W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse.
I sat down and wept. This was not anything we had planned or orchestrated, it was God moving in the heart of this generous couple, their obedience to him, and the response of men to this challenge.
I am so thankful for this gift. It was so needed, helpful and timely. The money raised was a tremendous blessing, but the incredible demonstration of unity, love and support for our college was even greater. In that moment, in that auditorium, we came together as a unified Fellowship. I realized the truth of Psalm 133:1 – How good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.
We are better together. God is still using his people, BBC, and the BBFI together to change the world. For this I am eternally thankful.
