The Iowa Baptist Bible Fellowship celebrated a milestone gathering in October with a record attendance at its state meeting, hosted by Heartland Baptist Church in Ames, where Randy Abell serves as pastor. The two-day meeting brought together pastors, missionaries, spouses, and ministry leaders from across the state for preaching, fellowship, encouragement, and a renewed sense of unity.
The meeting opened Monday evening with a warm welcome and a delicious dinner at a local favorite Asian restaurant, followed by a time of fellowship at Abell’s home. The atmosphere set the tone for what would become one of the most memorable and best-attended Iowa BBF gatherings … ever.
On Tuesday morning, attendees heard from two featured speakers who brought timely and challenging messages. Charles Lyons, representing City of Hope in Chicago, spoke from Acts 2 and encouraged leaders to follow the model of the first church. Missionary Don Baier of Global Surge followed with a stirring message from 1 Samuel 14 titled “Are You a Jonathan, a Saul, or an Armor Bearer?”
While the main session continued, the ladies met separately with Deanna Abell, Georgia Lyons, and Becky Baier for a time of connection and encouragement. Pastor Abell later provided an update on the Baptist Bible Fellowship International, sharing a positive report and expressing confidence in the direction and future of the Fellowship. “Our pastors in Iowa love the BBF. There is a growing excitement here and we truly believe great days are ahead,” Abell said.
A highlight of the meeting came when the pastors and ministers of Iowa gathered to sing Power in the Blood as a special. The heartfelt moment reflected both the unity and camaraderie that have become hallmarks of the Iowa BBF.
With a strong attendance, a full program, and a spirit of cooperation, the October meeting in Ames marked a significant moment for the Iowa Baptist Fellowship. Leaders left encouraged and energized for the work ahead, grateful for a gathering that strengthened friendships and renewed their shared commitment to the Gospel.
