Preparing for the Blessing

Growth is not something you force; it’s something you faithfully prepare for.

Every leader wants to see their ministry grow. We pray for more people, greater impact, and wider influence. But true ministry growth doesn’t begin with new strategies. It begins with spiritual preparation.

In order to scale a ministry, you must begin by preparing yourself for God to bless.

Growth is not something we force; it’s something we faithfully prepare for. Jesus said in Luke 16:10, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.” Before God multiplies a ministry, He measures the heart of the leader.

When Jesus fed the five thousand, He told the disciples to organize the crowd into groups and to have them sit down before the miracle happened. He was preparing them to receive what He was about to do. The same principle applies to us. God often waits to pour out His blessing until the people and systems are ready to handle it.

In the first years of the church I helped start in Michigan, I often said about our ministry, “We have to plan and prepare as if we are double our size.” Everyone didn’t understand at the time, but it helped us be ready when the growth came.

Preparation is an act of faith. It says, “God, I believe You are going to move, so I’m getting ready now.” That means growing in spiritual maturity, strengthening leadership teams, clarifying mission, and building healthy systems that can sustain growth. It’s not about manipulation. It’s about stewardship.

Too many ministries pray for harvest without preparing the barn. They ask God for increase but remain unorganized, untrained, and unready for what that increase requires. But when we align our hearts, sharpen our skills, and strengthen our structure, we create space for God to do more.

One of my favorite Old Testament events is Elijah on Mount Carmel. Before the fire fell, he rebuilt the altar. Before rain returned to Israel, he prayed persistently. Before God sent a blessing, Elijah prepared in faith. Ministry scaling begins the same way, by rebuilding what’s broken, praying with persistence, and expecting God to act.

The goal isn’t to build something big. The goal is to be faithful with what we already have. When God sees a leader who manages the small things well, He entrusts them with more. That’s how spiritual multiplication happens.

So ask yourself:

  • Am I spiritually prepared for God to bless?
  • Am I leading with integrity, humility, and vision?
  • Are our ministry systems ready to serve more people effectively?

Scaling a ministry begins long before the numbers increase. It begins in the quiet work of preparation, prayer, and personal growth. When God sees readiness, He releases resources. When He sees faithfulness, He provides fruitfulness.

Don’t just pray for growth. Prepare for it.
