An undaunted godly passion

After anxious months of scrutinizing all the debates on the National Health Care, we all watched a beaming President Barack Obama sign a historic $938 billion overhaul that guarantees coverage for 32 million uninsured Americans and will surely affect the lives of all citizens in America.

Not everyone was applauding the new bill. As the president paraded in front of society at large, attorneys general from several states were filing suit to stop the new health care bill, which they believe is an attempt by the federal government to infringe upon state rights.

Even still, there is no backing down. Washington Post reform advocate Ezra Klein quoted Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, who said, “We won that fight, and once we kick through this door, there’ll be more legislation to follow.”

Regardless of how you feel about the passing of the present administration’s Health Care Reform Bill, you have to marvel at the persistent and aggressive focus they have given to what I consider a socialist agenda.

The verse that keeps coming to mind is Luke 16:8 where the Lord commends the corrupt financial manager because he had done whatever it took to cover his deceptive accounting. Jesus finally concludes, “…the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.” So while we can’t commend the dark political methods of our day, we can surely be as fierce in our zeal for Baptist Bible College and Boston Baptist College as any politicians can be.

Imagine what we could do as a unified, undaunted Fellowship of churches if we focused only on fulfilling the Great Commission through our Bible colleges and missionaries. The impact would be felt across the world.

Let me encourage you to show such tenacity in helping Baptist Bible College achieve its $600,000 May Offering goal. Don Baier, treasurer of the BBC trustees, told us recently that “The financial position is much improved.” We can certainly thank God for His bountiful blessings, but there is still a great need for our involvement!

In the Northeast, Boston Baptist College is seeking a dedicated group of churches to help with their $150,000 May Offering that will go towards preconstruction of new dorms and funding of student scholarships. I know personally the great impact they are having in the Northeast and would encourage your financial support to this offering as well.

If politicians can be so insistent to pass a bill to give a false sense of temporary health in our lives in America, how can we not be more passionate and dedicated about investing in the lives of young heroes who carry the message of eternal life around the globe? So many are giving to multiply our impact — let me urge you to join them.
